REMEMBERING PARNELLI JONES PPIHC STOCK CAR CHAMPION
Colorado Springs, Colorado — The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is mourning the loss of motorsports icon, Parnelli Jones. Jones raced on Pikes Peak for the first time in 1962 in the Stock Car division in his #24 Ford. He finished in third place behind Curtis Turner, who set a division record of 14:55.50, also in a Ford; and Nick Sanborn who claimed second place in his Chevrolet.
In 1963, Jones returned to Pikes Peak in the Bill Stroppe-prepared Mercury, not only winning the division, but setting a Stock Car division record of 14:17.40.
