ALL-ELECTRIC ACURA ZDX TYPE S SETS THE PACE WITH TOP BMX ATHLETE COCO ZURITA BEHIND THE WHEEL
Colorado Springs, Colorado — The Official Pace Car for the 102nd Running of the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, brought to you by Gran Turismo has been announced.
THE CAR
A 2024 Acura ZDX Type S, the performance brand’s first all-electric model, will pace the 102nd Running of the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, brought to you by Gran Turismo. This year marks a decade that Acura has provided the Official Pace Car for the Race to the Clouds.
“From their supercar NSX to high-performance SUV’s, we have seen many impressive Acura vehicles take the first green flag over the last ten years. Acura’s constant pursuit of precision crafted performance sets the perfect example for the 70 competitors to follow,” expressed Melissa Eickhoff, PPIHC CEO.
The 2024 ZDX is Acura’s highly anticipated all-electric SUV, and the high-performance ZDX Type S stands as the most powerful Acura ever. Built upon a state-of-the-art electric vehicle platform with a low center of gravity and near 50/50 weight distribution, the ZDX Type S delivers nearly 500 horsepower and 544 lb.-ft. of torque at all altitudes.
THE DRIVER
Pro BMX athlete, car tuner and amateur drifter, Coco Zurita, will pace the field in the PPIHC debut of the first all-electric pace car in the history of the event.
Meliza Humphrey, senior manager of Acura Marketing at American Honda Motor Co., Inc., shared, “Coco Zurita has been a great partner of the Acura brand, first collaborating with us through custom builds that have been a huge hit with enthusiasts, including an Acura TLX that debuted at the 2024 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach and an Integra at the 2022 SEMA Show. As an extreme sports athlete, ranking among the top BMX athletes in the world, he has no fear of high elevations making him the perfect person to take our ZDX Type S to the summit.”
Originally from Santiago, Chile, Zurita has been riding BMX since he was 14 years old. He has competed in over a dozen X Games, achieving multiple podiums. His driving experience includes amateur drifting and competition in the Unlimited AWD class at Global Time Attack.
